The deposit that can be found on the surface of your kuksa is salt. It's neither serious nor harmful. It's the salt that you can also smell in your drinks when you first use the kuksa.
Salt is a 100% natural ingredient used in the manufacture of kuksa. For decades, the wood used to carve kuksa has been soaked in boiling salted water. This solidifies the wood.
When you stop using your kuksa, the salt will come out of the wood and this is what you see on the surface of your cup. To remove this salt, you can wash your kuksa in lukewarm water with a mild, natural soap. Then dry it immediately with a cloth and oil it.
Be aware that not all the salt will come off in the first wash! You'll need to do this 4 or 5 times. It all depends on the individual mug and its living conditions.
