The horn on the handle of the kuksa is reindeer horn. It comes from the many reindeer farms in Finland. It is an old Sami tradition to add reindeer horn as a decoration on a handmade object.

When autumn arrives in Finland, male reindeer lose their antlers. For females, this happens once they've had their young. When reindeer shed their antlers, herders collect them and use them to make jewelry, or to decorate products such as cups and knives.
