Our Kaniini kuksa comes in two variants: a light and a darker version. The dark kuksa acquires its unique hue after immersion in coffee, giving it a beautiful dark brown color. Conversely, the light kuksa retains the natural color of the wood, without coffee treatment.
Much more than a simple cup, the Kaniini kuksa represents a true masterpiece of craftsmanship, in which birch and reindeer wood are magnificently showcased. Each kuksa is hand-carved according to ancient Sami traditions. It is fashioned by a Finnish craftsman from birch burl, a rare growth of certain trees. 🪵 The Kaniini kuksa features a reindeer antler finish on the handle, adding a touch of elegance. 🦌
Whether in summer or winter, you'll be able to enjoy your drinks while keeping them at the right temperature. The kuksa's wood retains the drink's heat without the cup becoming hot for your hands. ☕️

During transport, the kuksa has undergone various temperature variations. Before pouring a hot liquid into it, be sure to let the wood return to room temperature. As a precaution, you can run your kuksa under lukewarm (not hot) water before using it.

Yes, if you'd like a kuksa that hasn't been soaked in coffee during the manufacturing process, just ask us - we have some coffee-free models, like the Kuukkeli, for example.

We recommend that you wash your kuksa before using it. To wash it, use lukewarm, not hot, water and a natural, chemical-free soap. Once the cup has been washed, dry it immediately with a cloth. You mustn't leave it to dry on its own, as the wood will soak up all the water.

To keep your kuksa in good condition, with its beautiful color and shine, you need to maintain it with oil (we recommend grapeseed oil) or a protective wax. You can buy grapeseed oil in our store, but we also make our own protective wax.

This kuksa can be used to enjoy hot or cold drinks. The wood will naturally keep your drink cool or warm.

No! None of our wooden products are microwave-safe. Microwave heat will damage the wood and cause it to crack.

This kuksa is handmade in the far north, in Finnish Lapland.

Kuksa were invented by the Sami, an indigenous people living in northern Scandinavia. They were used as personal containers for drinking, eating and even berry-picking. Kuksa are part of Duodji, a Sami craft centered on the creation of functional and useful everyday objects.

It takes around 8 days for a kuksa to be finished. Once the kuksa has been carved, the wood needs to soak for about 5 hours in boiling salted water. If you want a darker-coloured kuksa, soak it in coffee for a few minutes. The wood then needs to dry for a week. Then it is oiled.

My favorite is clearly the kuksa cup made from authentic birch with a reindeer bone for decoration. I feel connected to nature with these items in a way that plastic and glass can't make me feel. Also, it's non toxic and authentic wood (not from china) meaning its good for overall health. I also love feeling like a viking while drinking from my kuksa cup and feel connected from that side of my ancestry. The items may seem expensive to most but I promise you they are not.
